Touch Points – Outshine the Sun

"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. Matt 5:14-16 NIV
Have you ever tried to look up at the sun? It is so bright that you have to turn away. What if Christ’s light shining through you was even brighter? What would that light do for your family, friends, and the world? Just imagine how children would turn out if they were raised in a home where Christ’s love burned brighter than the sun. Let yourself think about the impact it would have on the work place, church, home, and community.
I was just in a situation where I listened to many share beliefs and practices much different from mine. I heard words like:
- Energy
- Light
- Essence
- We are all one
- I am the same as Jesus
- I worship a Goddess
- I am an Intuitive
I heard stories of people healing themselves through their own energy. I sat through a guided meditation where we were told to join our essence and let our combined light float above our heads and strengthen us. A man said, “Jesus was the first son of God. I’m also a son so that means I’m the same as Jesus.” Several talked about being an “intuitive.”
It was tempting to argue theology or to leave the situation in a huff but I remember Jesus saying that we are to be in the world but not of the world. Instead of starting a fight or bolting, I stayed and prayed for love, compassion, and understanding.
When I got alone, I wept. Why, God? What are we doing wrong? Why do they need this when the light of Jesus is so complete?
I felt the Holy Spirit whisper, If the light of Christians burned brightly enough, it would outshine all the darkness.
How I long to light up a room. I want nothing more than to be a blinding blinking neon light of pure Christian perfect love in every room I step into. One of the greatest compliments I ever received was someone saying, “You have something I want. Can you tell me what it is?” I want people to see Christ more than they see me. I want them to see what I feel and want what I have found to be true.
But alas, like most, I sometimes block the light of the Son. I let angry judgment stand between Love and me. I let doubts and worries cause my face to mimic the rest of the world. I allow pain from worldly disappointments reside too long in the temple of the Holy Spirit. I focus on my problems and myself and snuff out the candle of burning Son Light.
If we could only be bright enough, no one would ever lose their way. No one would look for light or energy from weaker unfulfilling sources. If our light burned brightly enough it would outshine the sun. Please feel my urgency on this. For the sake of our loved ones and the world, I beg you to join me in a renewed commitment stop thinking about or working on anything except loving God and people.
