Delighting in the Lord in the KOA at Cortez, Colorado

Belle and I spent a day delighting in the Lord. We hiked tails at Mesa Verde thanking God for His beauty and praying for everyone who walked there before and after us. We handed out quarters and talked about grace with the people we met. Belle showed off by doing tricks. It was delightful day. We left at about 4:30 to head to the KOA in Cortez, Colorado.
I stay in many KOA Campgrounds. In fact, I love KOA because they are consistent with amenities, cleanliness, and hot showers. They have a pool, laundry mat, clean showers, Internet, and a store…and did I mention HOT showers. Some have game rooms, hot tubs, and cable TV. A few even have a café where you can buy breakfast or dinner. They cost a tiny bit more than other campgrounds but I’m a KOA member so I get a 10% discount plus earning points towards free nights. KOA is my home away from home.
The KOA in Cortez, Colorado delighted me more than usual. (see Photo Gallery – Colorado – Cortez – KOA) Belle and I hated to leave Mesa Verde so imagine our thrill when I parked in the campground and Halleluiah overlooked an amazing view of Mesa Verde National Park. There is a swing on a ridge that looks at Mesa Verde and down at a river. That is where I plan to do my morning devotions. Belle chased ducks and birds as we hiked the mile long trail around a lake shimmering with the beginnings of a glorious western sunset. In the morning, we plan to frolic in the 3-acre dog park. The pool doesn’t have water in it yet but Belle doesn’t want to swim anyway. She just had a bath and claims that swimming would mess up her fluffy coat. The owners at this KOA are Christians and we’ve already shared our faith.
I’ve had an emotional couple of days because my precious friend and ministry partner, Gail Golden, and I have figured out that God is calling Gail in another direction. We will no longer be working together on a daily basis and we both will miss that. I pulled out of a KOA this morning seeking God’s peace. I spent the day delighting in the Lord and when I pulled into this KOA tonight, I knew God had given me the desires of my heart. I couldn’t have asked for a more peaceful campground.
