Devos for Divas - The Much Requirements – Part II By Barbara Gobbs Executive Assistant and Ministry Partner - Pocket Full of Change Ministries
“From everyone who has been given much, much will be required…” Luke 12:48b (NASB)
The interesting thing about writing this blog is I don’t always know what I am going to share until God impresses me with the thought or the experience to share. Sometimes, I get several slices of bread to share at one time. Other times, I stumble to follow bread crumbs until the entire thought is revealed. And then there are times like this past week, where I get nothing. Naught. Na-da. Blank. Help!
Last week, I committed to follow up on the thought that since we’ve all been given Jesus, we’ve all been given much – regardless of our bank account or “stuff” account. I promised to tell you the requirements of being given much today. Perhaps my fingers wrote a check I wasn’t going to be able to cash! Ah-Oh! Someone’s in big trouble!
Trusting God for inspiration, I continued throughout the week. Saturday, I was a bit nervous. Okay, I probably could come up with something, I’ve been doing this a while now. But coming up with something isn’t always coming up with the right thing.
As Saturday rolled around, I prepared for my day which involved spending the entire day time with a group of women from Stonecroft Ministries for a Webinar with women from all over the globe. It was during the first segment of worship that God supplied the answer to the question: “What does God require of me?”
When was the last time you asked yourself that question? What was your answer? It can be a very daunting question, overwhelming even. But God directed me to the very simple, non-threatening answer in Micah 6:8, which tells us, “ “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to love kindness [mercy], and walk humbly with your God?”
1. Be just 2. Love kindness, a.k.a mercy 3. Walk humbly with God
Simplicity at it’s best. Jesus sums it up in the New Testament like this:
“And He said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God will all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 22:37-40 (NASB)
What more can be said? Barbara
