Pocket Full of Quarters Trek 2015 Hospital Visit Turns Into Salvation For Corpsman Jacksonville, Florida
By Melinda Samaan Director – Ministry Development
I rushed through the hall, hoping they hadn't taken him yet. I arrived on the seventh floor of the base hospital to find my dear friend being wheeled by a hospital corpsman to the radiology department for testing. We chatted as the three of us walked swiftly down the long corridors to first one department and then another. The first waiting room was big and busy, as many base hospitals are. A voice directed us back to a smaller and quieter area where the corpsman and I could wait for my friends tested to be done.
The Holy Spirit whispered that He had brought me here for reason. As we sat in this tiny intimate little waiting area, this young female hospital corpsman was my Divine Appointment for the afternoon.. I began to talk with her about how I had known my friend for many years and we had been through some hard times together. I told her how my friend had known me when I was far from God and was the victim of my own poor choices in life and I shared with her how Jesus turned my life around.
She told me that her husband was also in the navy and her name was Shequila. She had visited numerous churches since joining the navy 2 years prior but had yet to find a “church home.” I felt led to ask the all important questions.
“Shequila, if you were to, heaven forbid, die tonight on your way home, where would you go?”
“Oh Heaven!” she quickly answered.
“If God said, you were a lovely young lady and a wonderful corpsman, but why should I let you in to my heaven, what would you say?” She thought for a moment.
Finally, she looked down and said softly, “I don’t know.” After sharing the Gospel with her, I learned that she believed that Jesus was the Son of God and He died for our sins. She knew she was a sinner and was in need of saving, but she had never called on the name of the Lord to invite Him to be her Savior. When invited, she eagerly allowed me to lead her in prayer with that invitation.
Her face lit. The room was dim but the glow of her face lit everything up. In this ministry, we like to call that the Holy Spirit Glow. She thanked me profusely. I thanked the Lord for this Divine Appointment.
