Travel Tip - Murdo Car & Truck Museum

Murdo Car and Truck Museum
I was passing through the cit of Murdo South Dakota. For miles, I had seen billboards about the car and truck museum. It truthfully looked like a tourist trap. I was in need of a break to I pulled into the combination gas station, gift shop, and museum. I did not intend to pay to go to the museum but you had to pass by the museum to get into the store and snack bar.
As I entered, a very enthusiastic man tried to get me to go into the museum. It looked small and I didn't want to spend $6 to get in. He couldn't stop talking about it. I turned him down and went into the store.
As I was leaving, he followed me to the car. He said, "You don't understand. You need to do this. I don't need the money. You need to see this." Seldom do such obvious sales tricks work on me but I decided he was sincere. Feeling a little like a sucker, I went back.
This museum was delightful. It was also huge. It went on for blocks behind the storefront. It is the largest collection of cars in the world. I think it is owned by the city. As I walked through it, I couldn't stop grinning.
I saw every old car you can imagine. It didn't stop there. I saw old wagons, stagecoaches, a flying car, a hearse, trucks, motorcycles, dolls, toys, pianos, games, xylophones, stoves, a jail, an old bank, fire trucks, and the list just keeps going. Everything was authentic.
At the end of the tour, I tried to find the man to thank him. He was at lunch. I left my card and hope he reads this.
If you ever travel down 90 in South Dakota, treat yourself. There are pictures on the website.
