Travel Tip: Traveling and Praying In New York and Vermont
If you ever find yourself traveling from Eastern New York to Vermont, I would like to suggest a route.
From Watertown, New York, take Highway 3 across the Adirondack Mountains.
At Saranac Lake take Highway 86 E. to 9N N.
Take 9N to Lake Champlain.
Enjoy the majesty of God’s creation.
Be sure to leave time to tour the amazing Ausable Chasm. It is just before you reach the lake. I have never seen waterfalls like them.
Take the 1-hour ferry ride from Port Kent to Burlington, Vermont. This ferry crosses Lake Champlain and the many islands in the lake. Stand at the rail and enjoy the water and the land.
Ask God to send you someone to tell about God’s love. Look around and tell someone that God has created a beautiful world. Most people will agree with you. Continue the conversation and look for an opportunity to find out if they need to know more about God.
Once you get to Vermont, take Highway 2 across the state. Stop and enjoy the many parks, cities, and lakes. Find a place to pray at each stop. It only has to take a minute but make a point to find a place and pray. Take a picture of where you prayed so you will remember.
Encourage your family members to each find a private place to pray. Those few seconds at each stop will make your vacation go so much better.
Plan to stay at Marshfield Inn and Motel in Marshfield, Vermont. They are a small but charming inn owned by John and Jean Krajewski. Their number is 802-426-3303. They are Christians.
They own 37 acres that protects the beautiful view of the mountain range. The rooms are clean, rustic, and very comfortable. Each room has a kitchen. Eat first or take groceries because there were no restaurants near by. The price was very reasonable.
They have a nature trail that goes down a hill and to a creek. You probably will see deer along the trail. They offer a home cooked breakfast in the morning.
Plan to take your Bible, journal, and your favorite mediation book. In the morning, sit in their yard and spend time alone with God.
Ask the Holy Spirit to go before you and to interpret what you are about to read.
Open your Bible and your meditation book and read. Even if the scriptures are recorded in the meditation book, read them from your Bible. It will help you fall in love with this blessed Book.
Underline anything that speaks to you. Date it so you will remember. Make notes in your Bible. You will enjoy reading them later.
Read slowly and think about each line. Do not be in a hurry. Pray as you read.
Look around you. Thank him for his majesty. Worship.
Give him your difficulties. Confess your mistakes, failures, disappointment, fears, and frustrations.
Ask for the desires of your heart but tell him that you want his will more than anything else.
Write down your new prayer requests. Date them. Leave space for the answer.
Review and pray for your on going prayer requests that have not been answered yet.
Date and record any answers you received the day before.
Thank him for all of the blessings in your life. Name new ones by writing them in your journal.
“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” Colossians 4:2-3 (from New International Version)
Ask God for knowledge of his will for you and the power to carry out that will.
Sit quietly. Breathe in his sweet spirit. Feel the cool mountain air. Clear your mind. Let God talk to you.
“I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways.” Psalms 119:15 (from New International Version)
Prayer is talking to God. Meditation is listening to God. Include both in your time with God.
Ask God to send you people that need to hear about his love. Ask Him to help you recognize the opportunity and to have the courage to take it. Ask him to make your time available and to help you care about the people you meet.
“And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ.” Colossians 4:3 (from New International Version)
Close in Jesus’ name and ask him to guide your steps throughout the day.
Go through the day following the directions of the Holy Spirit.
He will answer your prayer and give you knowledge of his will for you.
You will be granted the power to carry out that will. You will know what to do with your day. You will have the courage and wisdom to do it.
By doing God’s will, you become a family member with Christ.
“Whoever does God's will is my brother and sister and mother.” Mark 3:35 (from New International Version)
