A Personal Inventory to Identify False Beliefs
Instruction: Take the following personal inventory. Be honest and check anything that you believe or that you live as if you believe. Then test you belief against the scripture. Remember to pray for wisdom as you proceed.
God’s Nature ___ God isn’t good (Psalms 119:68) ___ God isn’t concerned about me (Matt. 10:30) ___ God doesn’t love me (Jer. 31:3, Rom. 8:38-39) ___ God is causing the chaos in my life (1 Cor. 14:33)
Self Esteem ___ I am unacceptable the way I am (Eph. 1:6) ___ I am better/worse than others (Rom. 3:10; 1 Thess. 5:23) ___ It is all about me (Rom 11:36)
Faith ___ I can’t trust God to meet my needs (Phil 4:19) ___ God is not big enough to do it (Jer 32:17, Matt. 19:26, Phil 3:21) ___ I can’t stop making the same mistakes over and over (Rom. 6:6-7, 22) ___ I can’t beat my past (1 Cor. 6:11, 2 Cor. 5:17) ___ I can’t do what God says to do (Phil 4:13) ___ Righteous people should not suffer (Heb. 2:10, 1 Pet. 4:12-19) ___ I need to be in control (Matt. 17:24-25, Gal. 2:20)
Relationships ___ I can’t forgive (Col 3:13) ___ I need to stand up for my own rights (Phil 2:6-7) ___ I need to pursue my own happiness (Matt. 5:6) ___ I need to point out other people’s mistakes (Matt. 7:3, Phil 2:3-4) ___ If I don’t fight back, I’ll get walked on (Matt. 5:39-42) ___ I can discern other people’s motives (1 Chron. 29:9) ___ Other people cause me to make mistakes (Exek. 18:19-20, Rev. 20:13) ___ I have a right to retaliate when hurt (Matt. 18:21-22) ___ I only have to love those who love me (Mat. 5:43-48) ___ The best way to get even is to do my enemy harm (Proverbs 25:21-22)
Peace ___ True peace can be found outside of God (Matthew 14:25-27) ___ I need to completely understand something to have peace (Phil 4:7)
