Biblical Tips On Relationships: Submit
Submission to authority is “key” to peace in relationships! Is it any wonder that in a society where submission to authority is a negative concept, families, nations, and economies are falling apart? Stop arguing and submit to authority.
Submit to EVERY earthly authority (even if they do not deserve it.) 1 Peter 2:13-14 NIV Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right.
Are the authorities in your life ignorant and foolish? Silence them by submission. 1 Peter 2:15-16 NIV For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men.
Is your employer incompetent, unfair, or just plain bad? Submit and be a good servant! (Possibly, while you quietly look for another employer) 1 Peter 2:18-20 The Message You who are servants, be good servants to your masters — not just to good masters, but also to bad ones. What counts is that you put up with it for God's sake when you're treated badly for no good reason. There's no particular virtue in accepting punishment that you well deserve. But if you're treated badly for good behavior and continue in spite of it to be a good servant, that is what counts with God.
Is your spouse being difficult and disobedient to the word? Submit to their right to make their own mistakes. (Besides, it is the best way to win your argument.) Note the word “in the same way.” This message is to men and women! 1 Peter 3:1-2 NASU In the same way, you wives, be submissive to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives, as they observe your chaste and respectful behavior.
Wives – submit to the authority of your husband. The very act of our submission helps our husbands become worthy of our submission. Eph 5:22-24 NIV Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
Independent natures demand, “Why should we do this?” We submit to one another out of “reverence to Christ.” Ephesians 5:21 NIV Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
