Did You Know...

Did You Know… That Charleston’s nickname is The Holy City because of how many churches they have. They actually made religious tolerance a part of their city ordinances and that attracted many who were seeking religions freedom.
First Baptist Church, Charleston actually began in Kittery, Maine in 1682, where the Puritans persecuted them for their religious beliefs. This tiny church heard about the religious tolerance in Charleston and in 1698, their pastor William Screvan and 28 congregational members immigrated to Charleston, South Carolina to form a church that still stands. First Baptist Church, Charleston is the oldest Baptist church in the south and I was blessed to be able to worship there on Sunday. Filling their courtyard is the graves of the saints who fought for their faith. To see pictures, go to the Photo Gallery and look at South Carolina, Charleston – First Baptist Church.
