Devils Tower National Monument Facts Did You Know…
That Congress approves National Parks and the President approves National Monuments?
That Devils Tower National Monument in Devils Tower, Wyoming (see Photo Gallery – Wyoming – Devils Tower National Monument) was the first National Monument created? On September 24, 1906, President Theodore Roosevelt named Devils Tower as America’s first national monument. 1
That Devils Tower was where the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind was filmed? At Devils Tower KOA, we sat outside shivering in the shadow of Devils Tower to watch the movie. In the dark night, lit only by the small movie screen, moonlight, and bright stars, it was easy to imagine that bright unidentified lights were about to pierce the darkness. (See Photo Gallery – Wyoming – Devils Park KOA)
That prairie dogs frolic in a 40 acre “dog” town in Devils Tower National Monument? Prairie dogs live about 4 years in the wild. Their tunnels extend downward from 3 to 10 feet. They are only active during daylight hours. 1
That many Native American tribes consider Devils Tower sacred? Throughout the park, there are prayer towels and prayer bundles hung on trees. (see Photo Gallery – Wyoming – Devils Park National Monument) While they do not know the significance of these tokens of worship, Park rangers ask visitors to respect their religious practices by leaving them alone.
That Devils Tower KOA is a great place to worship the one true God - Jehovah. The view of Devils Tower, which can be seen from everywhere in the campground, speaks of God’s majesty. The orange, green, and brown hills that surround the campground are an awesome display of the colorful palette that God used to paint the universe. At night, the clear bright stars pierce the darkness, reminding us that Christ pierced the darkness for us. God demonstrates his creation by allowing deer to wander through the campground. Sitting outside on a dark night at Devils Tower KOA is a perfect place to have a close encounter of the best kind. Holy Holy Holy! Lord God Almighty. (Rev. 4:8)
Rev 15:3 Great and marvelous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints KJV
