Biblical Tips On Relationships:
Worship – The Key To A Relationship With God

Why worship?

1. To find humility.

Humility is being teachable. It is not a natural state for mankind. When we see ourselves in relationship to God and eternity, we find humility. Without humility, our ego’s are too big to find God. It has been said that E.G.O is Easing God Out.

Job 1:20-21 NIV
At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship and said: "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart.

2. To know God’s character.

We have to know someone’s character in order to have a good relationship with him or her. The same is true for our relationship with God. God promises us that we can know Him. His character is revealed through worship.

Acts 17:23-27 The Message
I'm here to introduce you to this God so you can worship intelligently, know who you're dealing with. The God who made the world and everything in it, this Master of sky and land, doesn't live in custom-made shrines or need the human race to run errands for him, as if he couldn't take care of himself. He makes the creatures; the creatures don't make him. Starting from scratch, he made the entire human race and made the earth hospitable, with plenty of time and space for living so we could seek after God, and not just grope around in the dark but actually find him. He doesn't play hide-and-seek with us. He's not remote; he's near.

3. To Receive A Sense of our Shortcomings

Worship helps us to see ourselves honestly. Honesty is essential in relationships. It is essential for worship.

Matt 15:9 NIV
They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.

James 5:16 The Message
Make this your common practice: Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you can live together whole and healed. The prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with.

4. To Hear Our Call To Service

Even the Angel’s are waiting to see what Christ does through His church. God speaks to us in worship. We offer our bodies as living sacrifices and wait for His call in our life.

Rom 12:1 NIV
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God-this is your spiritual act of worship.

5. To collectively support and encourage others.

We learn about God by seeing Him work through His children. When we worship together, we support and encourage others to allow Christ to live through them.

Acts 20:7 The Message
We met on Sunday to worship and celebrate the Master's Supper.
