Manna In the Morning

Manna is the name for the food eaten by the Israelites during their travels during their desert wanderings. The dictionary defines it as divine or spiritual food. Thanks to the blessing of worshipping in Gretna Baptist Church in Gretna, Nebraska, I now receive a morning e-mail entitled Manna In the Morning.

Gretna Baptist Church is a small congregation that offers solid Bible teaching, friendly and welcoming greetings, uplifting worship, and the love of Christ.

When I saw the signup sheet for the morning e-mails, I quickly filled it out. You too can sign up for Manna in the Morning by e-mailing your request to pastor@gretnabapsistchurch.com.

The Joy of Our Heart…

Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts. Jeremiah 15:16 KJV

Jeremiah lived at a horrible time in Israel's history. Because of their rebellion, God was about to remove them from the land by means of the Babylonians. Jeremiah's task was to proclaim God's judgment, which was usually not received well. He was often mistreated and imprisoned. Living in difficult times and experiencing his own share of difficulty, it was the Word of God that brought joy and rejoicing to his heart. He says when God's words were found, he ate them. They were the spiritual nourishment he needed to survive in the worst of times. When everything else brought misery, God's Word brought joy. When days are difficult and discouraging, allow God's Word to be the joy of your heart.

Lord, I am sure my days are not as bad as those of Jeremiah's, but sometimes they are difficult and I do get discouraged. In such times I am grateful for Your Word, it provides the spiritual nourishment I need and enables my heart to rejoice.
