The Turtle - The Rest of the Story

The Turtle – The Rest of the Story

If you read the story titled “Rattled,” on August 16, 2007, you will see a reference to a turtle, which is the mascot for The Sojourners. (http://sojournershub.org) You may remember that I tried to blame my poor turtle, gifted by The Sojourners, for a rattle, which later turned out to be a spoon. At least, unlike the dish, the turtle didn’t run away with the spoon.

Some of you have wondered, why a turtle? Mr. Sojourner was kind enough to answer the question. The turtle has been The Sojourner's mascot for nearly 40 years. Here are the reasons:

The turtle is at home everywhere it goes.

It doesn't get anywhere unless it sticks it's neck out.

It has a hard enough shell that it is not easily hurt.

It so attached to it's covering that it's covering is an integral part of it's backbone!

The turtle not only finishes the race, it wins it!

Part of the vision for the Sojourner ministry is to have people traveling in Roadtreks, spreading the Gospel of Christ. Mr. Sojourner says that he has often thought how like a turtle being in a Roadtrek would be - he would be "at home every where it goes."

So there you have it, the rest of the turtle's story.
