The Divine Adventures of a Yahweh Sisterhood: An Introduction Written by Christain Writer/Speaker Barbara Gobbs www.barbaragobbs.com
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Jesus Christ, Matthew 28:19-20 (NAS95)
Bob is sending this to you today. Why? Because I am not home. In fact, where I’ll be today or for the rest of this week - I haven’t a clue. Only God knows. I can explain but first I must introduce you to someone. Her name is Cheryle Touchton.
Cheryle and I have many things in common. We both moved to Phoenix because God said so, our husband’s jobs and against our better judgment. Both of our husbands are named Bob. We are both from Jacksonville and have grandkids we left behind there. We both are writers. (I am the more novice writer between us.) When Bob and Cheryle joined our Bible study class at church and all the commonalities surfaced, I knew I had to get to know this woman.
Her business cards read: Pocket Full of Quarters. She is often referred to as the Quarter Lady. In fact, check out her website: www.pocketfullofquarters.com to learn more about how she earned her title. She has appeared on radio and television and loves the Lord with all her heart. Plus she is an ordinary woman just like me.
However, there is an extraordinary aspect of her ministry I must share with you. Cheryle travels three to four months each summer to talk to people about their faith. In turn, she shares her faith with others and then puts her experiences to paper. She drives a camper-van named Hallelujah and is accompanied by her beautiful dog Belle. During these missionary journeys, Cheryle generally overnights at camp grounds across the country. Other than Belle, she normally does this alone.
This revelation of her ministry took me by surprise as it does most others. Yet, if you read of what God has done for her and through her – you’ll know that she never travels alone. At home, her husband Bob supports her daily in prayer. He is also base command for her. They speak daily. He maps out her trips, tweaking them as needed because God often changes her travel plans on a moments notice.
It is her calling and her gift. She is aggressively committed to it and the One who called her into this service. She’ll argue the point, but I think she is a hero. In getting to know her, Cheryle has challenged my heart. I think God is telling me it’s time to kick things up a notch!
Now I am perfectly happy with the calling God has given me. I am totally committed to teaching and writing as He directs. But in every life there is room for growth. In fact when a believer stops growing, she or he stops sowing. But why do I have this feeling that pain is going to be involved? J Or at least a sleeping bag?
Cheryle has graciously allowed me to ride with her on the last leg of her summer journey. She occasionally allows people to travel with her, but as participants never spectators. But the time you are reading this I will have met her in Jacksonville, Florida and we’ll be on the road toward Phoenix. Only God knows what route we’ll take and the number of days we’ll travel before reaching home. We will stop at His discretion and talk with people about Jesus. I am going to be stretched. This trip will take me out of my comfort zone. I am so scared and so excited all at one time.
Recently she emailed me and said we needed to think of a name for our adventures. I offered this: The Divine Adventures of a Yahweh Sisterhood. We are assuredly sisters in Christ and we both desire to be led by the Divine. Pray that we never miss a divine appointment, experience divine protection and leadership, meet each challenge with a divine attitude and encounter the Divine in a new and fresh way that will defy words. Although, we’ll do our best to find the words.
I want to thank Cheryle for allowing me to encroach on her ministry in an effort to expand my faith and be an eye witness to God in a fresh new way. I will be journaling our travels as God directs and sharing them with you in the weeks ahead.
I know I am past my allotted “time” but if you check out www.pocketfullofquarters.com and click on “journal” – Cheryle posts her writings on each trip. You can keep up with us and might even find a few pictures. I’ll be writing myself and sharing with you in the weeks ahead and now on the web as well! You can now go to www.barbaragobbs.com and check it out! It’s still a work in progress so check back from time to time.
From Cheryle and me – thank you in advance for your prayers. I love you all dearly, thank you for sharing your Monday’s with me. May God keep each of you close to His heart.
Love, Barbara
