The Devotional Diva - Vision By Barbara Gobbs Executive Assistant and Ministry Partner - Pocket Full of Change Ministries
Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained [perish], but happy is he who keeps the law. Proverbs 29:18 Wow, my posting is running late this week! Sorry about that but my vision has been a little cloudy. When that happens to me, sometimes all I can do is wait anxiously for the fog to lift. What is important for me to remember is that during this time, my vision it not lost. It is only cloudy.
It seems I have been surrounded by difficulties. The last 7-10 days have brought crisis, challenge, and ordinary annoying mishaps, not just in my life but in almost everyone I know. As my boss, Cheryle, recently said, “We are all struggling right now.”
After our Pocket Full of Change Ministries Monday morning staff meeting – which largely consisted of sharing obstacles in each of our paths, Cheryle emailed, Vision without action is daydreaming. Action without vision is a nightmare. This and the above verse in Proverbs has been a mulling point for me for the past several days, Allow me to pass along what has formed in my cloudy mind.
Where there is no vision the people perish – At all costs, I want to keep the vision alive! We may have a specific vision or just rest in Jeremiah 29:11, knowing that God indeed has a plan and a purpose for us. If I lose this, I perish.
Vision without action is daydreaming – Vision requires a certain amount of thinking through and mental planning, but unless we are willing to get up and get going – our vision may never be a reality.
Action without vision is a nightmare - or literally, a mess! Trying to make things happen without a clear purpose and/or direction from God is likening to spinning my wheels in the mud. I’m wasting gas, not getting anywhere, and making a mess of the landscape.
Spiritual vision is from the Lord. He has one for each of us. That vision is first conceived on our hearts. Then it is planned in ours mind and finally carried out with our actions. If I miss any one of these points then I suspect I’ve missed them all.
Praying 20/20 vision for us all! Barbara
