GailFriends - A Jewish Love Story
By Gail Golden Publicist and Ministry Partner - Pocket Full of Change Ministries
Blessed are those who are called to the wedding supper of the Lamb. Revelation 19:9
“And the Bride says, “Come quickly, Lord Jesus”
I have such sweet memories of my daughter, Amanda, waiting at the alter for her bridegroom, and of my soon to be son in law striding eagerly down the aisle to claim his bride. As you can tell, their wedding was unique. William and Amanda modeled their wedding after the ancient weddings in Israel. I wrote this story for the occasion.** Upon arriving, each guest was given a copy, rolled up and tied with a ribbon. We prayed the story would be used to bring guests to salvation. I thought my Gail-Friends would enjoy reading it. A Jewish Love Story
Long ago in Israel, when a man chose a bride, he visited her family to ask permission for the marriage. The father required the bridegroom to pay a price for his beloved and when they reached a marriage agreement, the bride took his hand to signify her acceptance of his proposal and the beginning of the betrothal period. Because this betrothal involved a commitment by both parties, it was almost like being married.
The newly betrothed bride wore a veil across her face signify the engagement and show everyone that she was no longer available. The groom went to his father’s house to prepare a place for his bride while the bride stayed behind to prepare herself for the wedding. Since the bride did not know when the groom would return for her, she had to be ready at all times. Since most bridegrooms liked to surprise the bride by coming in the middle of the night, the bride kept with lamps filled with oil.
Traditionally, the bridegroom rode in on a horse and announced his arrival with a loud shout. The bride, who was ready and eagerly waiting, was whisked away to the wedding chamber of the bridegroom’s father’s house. They stayed in the wedding chamber for seven days and then came out for the celebration of the wedding feast.
This is a beautiful picture of how Jesus weds us. He sees us, loves us, and wants us for His bride. If you feel God pulling you to Him, He is wooing you with his love right now. He loves you and wants you for His beloved. He has already asked the Father for you, and Abba has agreed. Jesus has already paid the price for you – His life and blood on the cross. That is the greatest price ever paid for a bride!
When you accept the proposal, you enter into a new relationship with Jesus. You will have an outward and an inward change. Just as the veil shows the new relationship of the bride, people will see that you belong to Jesus because you will be different.
You will want to please your Bridegroom and if you read His Word, you will know He is coming back for you one day soon. You will want to prepare yourself by having oil in your lamp. You will listen for His Shout! You will also be excited that the wedding celebration is coming near! You will see your Beloved face to face in all His Glory and you will have sweet fellowship in Heaven forever! Are you ready? Are you eager to hear His call?
