Belle’s Musing – Halleluiah Throws Stuff At Me

Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it. Luke 11:28NIV

Halleluiah throws stuff at me. I’ve been hit with dishes, socks, paper towels, and even a computer. We turn a corner and something comes flying. At first, I tried to hide but eventually found out that there was no place to hide. I asked Mommy why we had to spend so much time in Halleluiah and she said we were being obedient to God. I don’t know why God wants me to be hit by flying plates but if Mommy is right, I’ll just keep sleeping with one eye open.

Today, I was lying on the floor minding my own business when brown powdery stuff poured all over me. It got in my hair, eyes, and between my toes. I tried to tell Mommy but she was driving and not paying attention. I jumped in the front seat beside her and ignored it. At least this stuff didn’t hurt.

Mommy parked the car and was on the phone with Daddy when she saw the mess. “Bob, she screamed, “There is brown powder everywhere.”

I could have told her that.

Mommy kept talking. “It is all over the counter, sink, and floor. I can’t believe it. It is even inside the microwave.

Daddy must have made a suggestion because Mommy opened a cabinet and said, “No, the cinnamon is still standing up straight.”

“I don’t want to smell it,” Mommy told daddy. “I don’t know what it is.” She looked up at the ceiling fan to see if it was open. “The ceiling fan is closed and there is no brown stuff in there. It is everywhere. Where did it come from?”

How was Daddy supposed to answer that when he was still in Phoenix. She should have asked me the question. I knew it came from the top cabinet.

Mommy opened the rest of the cabinets. The top cabinet was stuck closed and it took her a few minutes for her to force it open. When it finally opened, the brown stuff poured all over her. “The instant coffee lid is off,” Mommy told Daddy. “You are the only one that ever uses this. Did you put it on good last time?”

That was a silly question. Daddy always puts lids on tight.

“I don’t even drink instant coffee,” Mommy complained. “I don’t know why it is still in here.”

I knew why she brought it. Daddy sometimes joins us and he drinks instant coffee like it is his job.

“No,” she said to daddy. “It is not broken. The lid is lying beside it. I think it exploded from the high altitude.” She looked in the other cabinets to see if anything else had exploded. Sure enough, the lid had also flown off the gallon jug of water under the stove.

Water leaked onto the floor. Water and dry instant coffee are not a good combination for small campers.

“I don’t have time for this. That massage you made me get is in 15 minutes,” Mommy wailed. “I can’t leave it like this because Belle will be a mess.”

Frantically, Mommy started vacuuming, sweeping, and wiping the camper. I watched in awe. I’d never seen such a mess or Mommy move so fast. I wanted to play too but Mommy wasn’t in the mood.

“Stay Belle!” Mommy scolded. “Get on the seat and stay!”

Mommy was still wearing her earbud and talking to poor Daddy. “How did it get inside the microwave?” she asked. We all agreed that was a great question.

Mommy cleaned up enough so she could get her massage. She finished cleaning later but I can still see coffee on the front of the refrigerator. If it had been me, I wouldn’t have used that wet sponge. I need a bath and needed that massage more than she did. She has shoes on her feet but I have to walk in this mess with my bare feet. At least coffee smells good.

Mommy says we are blessed when we hear a word from God and obey it. I’ve got news for her. She heard a word from God but the voice I heard came from Mommy. I hope hearing Mommy’s voice and obeying still gets me blessed because this is a lot of work.
