GailFriends - “The Director”

My quiet time for prayer and Bible Study each morning is spent on my patio, overlooking my back yard. I sit in a white wicker rocking chair and across from me sits a white director’s chair. Across the back of the upper part are the words “God Is The Director” written in big red letters. I had the chair specially made because I wanted this message as a daily reminder.
I have a tendency to forget that God is the one in charge. As a wife and mother, I sometimes want to direct my husband and my children. As an employee, I often think I know better than my boss. As a daughter, I often think my mother should do things differently. I disagree with people, neighbors, politicians, the media….I could go on and on. Those thoughts destroy my peace. While I have the right to express my ideas and opinions, I can’t make anyone do anything about them.
My chair reminds me each morning to turn all of these cares and concerns over to God. He is not only my director, but He is the director of other people’s lives. He is running the show, not me.
Daily, I ask God for “my” script. I don’t worry about other people’s scripts anymore. I let God direct them. I tell Him my concerns and I ask Him if there is anything He wants me to do about them. Most of the time, He tells me to mind my own business. I’m okay with that, because when I’m the director, the show doesn’t always turn out well. I’ve found that letting God be the Director insures a very good show.
