Trek 2008 – God Loves Me!

I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand [ generations] of those who love me and keep my commandments. Ex 20:5-6 NIV

The angels throw a party when someone who is lost finds Jesus. While the sins of the parents hurt the third and fourth generations, when someone overcomes the sins of the parent, they have the opportunity to influence 1000 generations. What joy it is to see someone claiming the promise of 1000 generations

Britney is 12 years old. Until a year ago, she lived in foster care. She said, “I was abused by my father and in several foster homes. I was beat up by adults and other children. I was moved from home to home until a year ago. I used to think that God didn’t love me because of all he let happen to me. Then I read the Bible and found out I was wrong. God loves me! I invited Jesus into my life and asked God for a Christian family. I was adopted by a Christian family who loves me.”

I told Britney about my son David, who we met when he was six. He had a similar story of pain and abuse before he became our son. “Britney, David was never able to let go of what happened to him. He is in heaven now but it ruined his life on earth.”

“I know,” she said. “I’ve had trouble letting go of it too but I want to so I can help others like me. Other children need to know God loves them.”

“God didn’t do those things to you,” I said. “Sinful people did. We might not like it but the Bible tells us that innocent children are hurt by the sins of the parents. It also promises that if you overcome those sins, 1000 generations will be blessed. If you forgive the people for what they did, one day you will be glad that happened to you because you will see how it made you stronger and helps others. ”

“That’s what my new mom told me,” she smiled. “Jesus will help me. I can do it, I know I can!”

Jesus will help her. The choice will be hers about letting Him. I went back to my camper and cried over the pain of my adopted son David and other children so terribly abused. I prayed for Britney, knowing that the demons from her past will hover, hoping to snatch her back into the horror she was shown. I praised God for the witness Britney was giving the world. Please pray for Britney.
