GailFriends - A Tangible Promise By Gail Golden Publicist and Ministry Partner - Pocket Full of Change Ministries
“…my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19) NIV
At one time in my life, I was single and supported myself with a sales career. After a car accident, I was injured and could not work for an extended length of time. By the time I was able to work again, my bank account was depleted. It was the first of the month, and I needed $375.00 to make a car payment. I made phone call after phone call, trying to make a sale, but with no success.
With a heavy heart, and yes, a very worried mind, I went to a church meeting. As I drove, I prayed, Father, you know I need $375.00 to make the car payment. I have worked so hard with no results. Please help me. I’m begging you.
Gently, my Father spoke to my heart: My child. Tonight, I am going to teach you very tangibly that I will always meet your needs. You will never doubt that I will take care of you again. I am going to give you a tangible reminder that I will never forsake you.
Wow! I went to the church meeting expecting to hear an inspiring sermon about God’s provision. It didn’t happen. I left the church and walked slowly to my car, asking myself if I’d heard God right.
“Hey, Gail! Wait up!” I turned to see my friend Suzanne, running to catch up with me. “I’ve got some clothes I wanted to see if you might like.”
“Sure!” I said eagerly, since Suzanne wears beautiful clothes, and our style is similar. What a treat! We walked together to her car. she opened the trunk and we started going through the clothes.
“Oh, Gail, I thought you’d really like this jacket. It’s by a fabulous designer. Do you know him?” She held the jacket up, pointing to the label. I almost fainted. The label read “EMANUEL”. The jacket was my sign! The spelling was different, but I understood God’s message. One of my Father’s names is “Immanuel” and means “God with us!” I felt chills run up and down, as I tried on the beige and brown plaid jacket. It was beautifully tailored, fit perfectly, and I felt like a princess in it.
“Oh, Suzanne! It is just perfect. Thank you,” I sobbed through tears. “You have blessed me more than you know!”
I drove home that night with a happy heart, thanking God for my new clothes, and for the reassurance He’d given me with the jacket. The next day, I unexpectedly received a check in the mail for… you guessed it! $375.00. I jumped up and down with joy and praised the Lord!
My Emanuel jacket hangs in my closet to this day, as a tangible reminder of the cherished promise of my Father. God is so good to me. He has always met my needs and I know He always will.
