Touch Point – Don’t Miss Your Turn

That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Rom 10:9-10
NIV

“Don’t you think it is OK just to plant seeds. We may not ever know how it turns out but at least we plant the seed,” a woman said.

“I call that ‘Drive By’ evangelism,” I said. “We toss seeds and drive right by. I do it when I’m eating in a restaurant. I tell the waitress, ‘I’m a Christian. I’m about to say a blessing. What can I pray about for you?’”

“I can do that,” this woman said. “I have trouble doing more.”

“The problem with only doing that,” I said, “Is that you might miss your turn for a special blessing. In sales, people are taught to ask for the sale. I believe in doing that for Christ as well. It is easier than you can imagine.”

I was at the Veterans Hospital. I’d been walking around praying with patients. Shirley (see picture in Photo Gallery – New York – Canandaigua Veterans Hospital) was sitting outside on a bench. She saw me praying with an older man waiting on a bus.

When I saw Shirley watching, I turned to her and I said, “Is there something you need prayer for? I’m in ministry and I pray with people.”

“What kind of ministry?” She asked.

“I’m a Christian missionary, author, and speaker,” I answered. “I travel the country and help people. Are you a Christian?”

“I want to be one. I’ve been going to Christian services where I’m living. I’m going to find out how to become one,” she answered.

My heart raced. I could barely catch my breath. It was my turn. God was going to let me be a part of her moment.

“I can help with that if you want,” I said.

She eagerly agreed. I pulled a tract out of my purse and read her scriptures.

“Becoming a Christian is the easiest thing you’ll ever do.” Using the tract, I explained that she needed to believe, confess, and invite. She seemed to understand and agree with each point.

“Would you like to pray to receive Him right now?” I asked.

“I would,” she said.

“Then repeat each line after me,” I said. We prayed together.

“Dear Jesus, I believe you came into this world as a baby, died on a cross, and rose from the dead. I have made many mistakes and confess them to you. I invite you to become a part of my life right now.”

When we finished, she and I both were crying.

“The angels are throwing a party for you,” I said. “The Bible says every time someone becomes a Christian, the angels celebrate. They’re celebrating for you now. That is all you have to do. You’re a Christian. Nothing can undo that.”

I work with people at all different phases of their spiritual walk. I enjoy all of it. Being at the beginning is a special blessing that doesn’t happen very often. It was my turn to be a part of that blessing. Thank God I didn’t miss it.
